Information about this type of wood:
The heartwood of plane trees is light brown and the broad sapwood is white to slightly reddish in color. Native plane trees usually show a clear purple-blue glow, while Belgian and French plane trees are clearer and whiter and show much less tendency to work. Broad, high rays that are darker than the rest of the wood cause a typical pattern on quarter-sawn wood. This is the reason that the wood is sometimes cut into veneer. The English name 'lacewood' refers exclusively to quarter-sawn plane trees. Plane tree is strong, tough, firm and moderately hard. American plane trees have approximately the same properties as European plane trees.
